Captivating Varieties of Glasses - By: Jonathon Midel, Posted on: 2006-10-18
Instead of sticking to the traditional norms, glass for many years has been used in various avatars to decorate buildings. Glass can be used in a beautiful way to improve the look of the buildings especially windows and entry halls. The leaded glass is the most popular one among glasses. The leaded glass is made of glass bounded together using lead pieces, or strips, which are known as "cames". Lead in glass makes it easy to manage in the manufacturing process. It can be bent in which ever way you want so as to create a shape of your desire. This helps you to position the glass wherever you want, be it on locations like churches or in your houses. Lead glasses can be manufactured with patterns and textures which make it look more sophisticated and advanced. The strength or performance of the glass is not disturbed when texturing a leaded glass. Texturing adds an attractive and artistic look to the glass. If you are looking for a different and artistic glass for your windows then you can easily find it in leaded glasses. Stained glass is another type of glass that many people are using to accessorize a room in their home. A common part of the house where stained glass is often seen is front entry halls, since this the first part of a house that guests see. The beauty of stained glass has been known for centuries and continues to be boldly featured in many buildings around the world. Basically, stained glass is leaded glass with color and patterns added. Artists add pigmentation to the glass while they are making it. They can also add the colors once the cut pieces of plain glass have been put together. They do this by painting the color onto the glass. The paint is made from powdered glass and color pigments. Once all the painting is completed, the glass is put into a kiln where the heat will melt the pigments and fuse them into the glass. Glass is often marked so that beautiful patterns are created. This process is called "etching". The marking, or etching, is done using chemicals or abrasives that are applied to the clear glass. Any design or pattern is possible when it comes to etching glass. This technique is often used for glass doors and for windows that are a focal point of any room. Many builders are creating etched glass and using it in the entry hall of large homes as a decorating feature. Faceted glass is known by the name "Dalle de Verre". It's made by chipping the edges on thick panes of glass. This technique gives the glass a faceted look. Dalle de Verre glass is seen most frequently in large buildings where it can be more readily appreciated. The main objective in using glass is to add to the decor of the house. The type of glass used does not matter as long as the functionality of the glass is properly utilized with creativity. Using glasses in building a house will give an appealing look to your windows and rooms.
